Abstract
Pre-incubated Microbe Ecological Engineering (PMEE) being a combination of ecological engineering and EM technologies was tested by incubating EM into the root system of specific water plants and feeds for fishes. Water plants, aquatic animals and EM are introduced into the water system carefully as a highly integrated mini-ecological system. In Hongkong, a pond with 3000 litres capacity having duckweeds, waterlily, snails and small fishes was treated with PMEE for 3 months. The transparency of the pond before and after treatment improved by 147.5 %, COD decreased by 62%, NH3 reduced by 55.3 % and the bad odour was absent. The system is considered natural, environmentally friendly, cost effective and can be adopted under a wide range of environments.
