Abstract
The Sindh province is the second largest agricultural zone in Pakistan,
where land has been degraded by excessive use of agrochemicals, leading
to loss of productivity. This has created many social and economic problems
in the region. The Oxfam initiated community based programs in 1998 to
establish sustainable projects aimed at promoting nature farming. Hence
EM is being promoted in a selected area, where 4 fermenters have been constructed,
and EM used in pest management with neem (Azadaricta) extracts. The results
are promising and farmers are keen to adopt this technology. Thus further
training programs have been conducted and literature is being distributed
in the local language. The presentation highlights the strategies adopted
to promote Kyusei Nature Farming and EM Technology in this backward underdeveloped
region of Pakistan.
