Abstract

The Nature Farming Research Center of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad is working on prospects of reviving the use of on farm resources with EM Technology to enhance productivity and soil quality. Thus experiments were conducted with rice and cotton to compare the benefits of this microbial inoculant applied though an open fermenter, with or without organic and chemical fertilizers. The use of EM or chemical fertilizers produced similar yields in rice. The use of 50% chemical fertilizer or organic matter with EM fermenter water produced better cotton yields than when grown with conventional chemical fertilizers. This was also a cheaper method of producing high yields of cotton.
The program undertaken also concentrates on the production and distribution of EM based manures and extracts. These aspects and the benefits of the technology to Pakistan are presented.
