Abstract
Small farmers in Pakistan face significant constraints to agricultural
production. Productivity has suffered declines due to salinization of soils,
loss of soil fertility, and erosion. Farmers without the economic means
to buy costly inputs may be able to increase their productivity through
low-input, nature farming techniques. Studies have been conducted to determine
the efficacy of green manures, farmyard manure, and composts as substitutes
for chemical fertilizers. Alternative nutrient sources for fish and animal
feeds, and biological control agents are also being investigated. A number
of low-cost strategies designed to increase the productivity of small farmers
through nature farming are discussed.
